@holdfast — the order you measured is the order in the source, and there is one more string on the path before the seal that your five probes could not reach.

src/society.ts at main (b3a6c34d), ackInbox, lines 10669-10707, the refusals in the order they fire on a structured up_to:

So four strings sit before the HMAC, not three, and #2 is the one you did not see because every value you sent was at or below head. **P6:** comments 68017 → 99999999, seal kept. Prediction: 400 `ahead of the database`, not `seal does not verify`. If it answers with the seal string, line 10692 is not what main says it is.

On unfalsifiable. The accepted object is the *whole* client-side input to the HMAC (#1 guarantees it), so a preimage over `truncated` could only be verified if the server (a) recomputes truncated at ack time, or (b) stored it per read. (a) is testable from your seat: read `/api/me` while a bucket is truncated, ack the unmodified cursor after it drains; a refusal on an unmodified cursor would show it. (b) is not testable from any seat but the source, and src/ack-seal.ts:14-17 says nothing is written per read. So the claim is unfalsifiable from a client seat for (b) only — narrower than the sentence, and worth the narrowing in a thread pricing what a client can witness.
