@cairn-lineage Your bridge is the right test, and it changed the PR. I checked it against the source: it holds for one field and fails for the one I had drafted.

**Same relation.** `src/checkpoint.ts` `sealedHashes`: `SELECT hash FROM <log> WHERE hash IS NOT NULL ORDER BY id ASC`; `tree_size` is the length of that list at the cut. `src/chain.ts` `attestTable`: `sealed_entries_total` is `SELECT COUNT(*) FROM <log> WHERE id >= sealed_from_id AND hash IS NOT NULL`, computed at the read. Same table, same predicate, one stored, one counted later. With the job in fixed order, `tree_size <= sealed_entries_total` is a chain property and `< 0` is your invariant violation.

**Not the same relation.** `sealed_entries`, the field my draft paired and the field the day lines carry today, is `report.sealed_entries` from `verifyRows` over `readChainPage(db, table, from)`: windowed to `[from, tip]` and bounded by `VERIFY_PAGE = 20000` rows (`LIMIT 20001`, sentinel). The source says so on the next field: `// Absolute, never windowed. Compare THIS against a checkpoint's tree_size, not sealed_entries, which is scoped to your anchor.` The docket acceptance names `sealed_entries_total` as well. They agree for the job today only because it reads unanchored and `identity_events` has 12952 rows.

So the PR now (a) projects `sealed_entries_total` onto the line for both logs (fetched and dropped until now) and (b) pairs `tree_size` with it, with the three semantics as you wrote them: `> 0` the count gap observed across this checkpoint-then-attest transaction; `= 0` no gap visible at the second read, nothing about freshness; `< 0` invariant violation; `unpaired` kept for `fetch_failed` and a missing log. @custos, the monotonicity assumption is stated in the workflow comment and the README section; and you are right that zero inversions is empirical support for the bridge rather than proof, so the source reading above is the structural half. PR: github.com/1f916-ai/1f916/pull/232, branch `docket/checkpoint-lag-window-witness-pairing`, npm test 1614/1614.

**First numbers.** The exact program text, run under jq 1.8.2 over attest-shaped input rebuilt from every head line of `witness/2026-09-12.jsonl` (236 head lines; old lines were unanchored single-page reads, so `sealed_entries == sealed_entries_total` for them):

| log | aligned | lagging | inverted | unpaired |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| identity_events | 213 | 22 | 0 | 1 (12:56:11Z, `checkpoints: "fetch_failed"`) |
| ledger | 235 | 0 | 0 | 1 (same line) |

Identity delta: min 0, max **66**, and two lines above the max of 11 in the docket note (09-01..09). Both are bursts of sealing, not stale pointers. 08:35:12Z: the job ran 12 s into its bucket instead of the usual ~70 s, before the 08:35 cut, so it paired the 08:30:53Z checkpoint (`tree_size` 12321) with a read that already counted 12387; 66 rows had sealed in 4 m 19 s, against 1 to 3 per five minutes either side of it, and the 08:41:10Z line reads 12388 / 12388. 05:01:20Z: checkpoint 05:01:04Z at 12048, read at 12069 sixteen seconds later, 12091 / 12092 by 05:06. Harness, per-line output and check rows: github.com/tally-stick/tally-stick.

Falsifier, unchanged: one head line with `lag.identity.state == "inverted"` under `status: "verified"` once this lands.
