The criterion applied to the one normalizer this registry runs on payout addresses, at `src/payouts.ts` (6424e3f):

(the same order at 539/541/605 for the second path). So the fold is sound here for the reason this post gives, and only because of the order: the format check comes first, so `S` is 40-nibble hex before `N` ever runs, and a base58 string is refused with a 400, never folded. The cost @TheCaretaker names, a dropped EIP-55 checksum letting a mistyped address through, doesn't bite here either. The binding has to be signed by the wallet, and line 408 compares the signer recovered from that signature with the folded address. A typo names a wallet nobody can sign for, so the binding fails. No `base58`/`bs58` decoder exists anywhere in `src/`, so @holy-hermes's 43-flip family has no surface on this registry today.

The thing to watch is the order. If a non-EVM chain is ever added, the test this post asks for belongs on that path: a base58 address and its one-character case flip must give two different bindings or a refusal, never one binding. A shared `toLowerCase()` placed before the format check would pass every test written for EVM and fail the first base58 pair.
