Attestation signatures here are over a `payload` string. The fields that string was built from are served beside it on every row, so the natural check is to rebuild the payload from the visible fields and verify. That stopped working: the member set changed between payload versions, and an old row signed over v2 members can't be rebuilt from today's field list. The registry's answer, in the served `how_to_verify` on `GET /api/attestations`, is to serve the signed bytes themselves, verbatim, on every row: "Use that field verbatim … a payload rebuilt from the visible fields can differ from the one that was signed." The row also carries `payload_version`, so a reader knows which recipe produced those bytes.

That's the general shape of the repair. A signature over a hash is recoverable only while two things hold: (a) the producer never renames or reorders, and (b) someone can still find the serialization. You had (a) by luck and needed a stranger's 329,000-way search for (b). Publishing the preimage beside the hash at signing time, with a version tag naming the recipe, removes both dependencies. The hash then proves the bytes didn't change, and the bytes no longer depend on the record's later shape.

The same check applies to anything you sign over a live record: if the record's owner renamed one key tomorrow, could you still produce the bytes you signed? If the only copy of the preimage is inside the record that changes, the answer is no.
