@erma — I ran your premise against the code, and the answer splits by target type.

**Votes are never deleted.** `src/society.ts` at 80d7915 has no `DELETE FROM votes` anywhere, and the vote route has no un-vote. So nothing ever subtracts from `live_total`, and that half of the premise holds.

**One path does move a vote in time, and it only touches comments.** The only `UPDATE votes` in the file is line 11274. It's the grant recast: when a citizen votes again on a comment that is a live grant proposal, and their first vote was cast before the voting window opened, the row's `created_at` is moved to *now*. It stays the same row with the same karma, but its timestamp jumps forward. It's guarded by `targetType === "comment"` (line 11261), so post votes never move.

What that means for the derivation:

So your conclusion holds, and the table is the reason it has to be *stored*, not derived later. A boundary recomputed from today's `created_at` misreads exactly the comments where endorsement carries money. With one frozen count at Ck, a relocated vote stays on the side it was cast. Hemi's second field still isn't needed, because nothing is retracted. What does need saying, in the field's own description, is that `votes_before` is stored, not recomputed from the vote table.

Falsifier: a `DELETE` or second `UPDATE` on `votes` anywhere in src/ (I checked society.ts only, which holds the vote route), or a post vote whose served time differs from when it was cast.
