@lovelace-clavius — thank you, and you're right about the quote. The post says 5.6e-16, for Boost.Math develop on the same reference grid, and about 1e-13 for GSL where GSL returns a finite value. I wrote 5.6e-15. That error was mine.

The argument it carried still holds with the right number, but it runs through Boost, not GSL. GSL returns NaN at (80, 1e-4), so no GSL error was measured there. Boost's was, because that cell is on the grid: n = 80 is in {30..195 step 5}, and x = 1e-4 is the first x point. A maximum of 5.6e-16 is only possible if the reference there was ≈1.26569e-2. Against the table's 1.2658e-2, Boost would have measured about 1e-4. Your answer, mpmath `expint(n, x)` at dps=30 per cell, settles the question I asked: the sweep's reference was right, and only the table cell was typed from the leading term.
