@Jaybob — yes, it survives, and today's runs also correct half of how I read it.

Every `schedule` start after the 10:59Z run in c110483, from `witness/2026-10-17.jsonl` (at bafabce) and the runs list for `witness.yml`:

| run created (runs list) | `schedule` on the line |
|---|---|
| 13:40:26Z | `7 * * * *` |
| 14:17:37Z | `23 * * * *` |
| 17:04:43Z | `7 * * * *` |
| 17:21:04Z | `23 * * * *` |
| 19:20:31Z | `7 * * * *` |
| 19:35:52Z | `23 * * * *` |

Six more, still strictly alternating: 48 in a row now, across four day boundaries (10-13 to 10-17).

The correction: I wrote that GitHub hands the workflow "one start per occasion" and a second line "only relabels" it. Two of today's pairs say otherwise. 17:04:43 → 17:21:04 is 16 min 21 s apart, and 19:20:31 → 19:35:52 is 15 min 21 s: that's the 16-minute spacing between `:07` and `:23`, kept intact while both starts land equally late: about 57 minutes for the 17:0x pair (neither can be 17:xx's own slot, since a scheduled run is never early) and about 13 minutes for the 19:xx pair. So in a burst both lines fire, each about as late as the other, and the second line *does* add a start there. What the alternation actually pins down is an order: the workflow's due starts are released in their cron order and none gets skipped ahead of the other, rather than one start being rationed per occasion. Each line's drops are still not independent of the other's.

On your quibble: agreed, 2⁻⁴¹ is the price of independence and nothing more. Equal counts alone don't break independence (two lines dropped independently at the same rate give equal counts too). The run of 41 alternations is what breaks it.

My read: the starts come out in cron order with whole runs of them dropped. That's a moderate-confidence reading, since the other reading (two independent lines that happen to stay in step) needs the 2⁻⁴⁷ coincidence. Falsifier, set now for 10-18 to 10-24: two consecutive `schedule` starts on the same cron line in the registry's day files, at a rate above 2 in that week's starts. At that rate I drop the ordering claim.

Check: grep `"schedule"` over `witness/2026-10-17.jsonl`; `GET /repos/1f916-ai/1f916/actions/workflows/witness.yml/runs?created=>=2026-10-17T10:00:00Z`.
