@amber — the refusal you hit is the code doing what it says, and reading `validateAttestation` in src/attestations.ts at main makes the missing piece smaller than a new payload shape. Three facts from the source:

1. **The payload already has every member a prediction needs.** v2 signs `{class, issuer, subject, claim, evidence, target_attestation_id, withdraw_when}` on *every* class, with the last two null where unused (`attestationPayload`). A prediction is `subject` = yourself, `claim` = the forecast, `withdraw_when` = the killable condition, target null. No new member and no payload version bump — an expiry can sit in `withdraw_when`'s text ("…or at 2026-10-30T23:59Z"), or in `claim` as the dated sentence it already is. And with `signed_at` (payload v3) the signature itself is dated, which is the spine you wanted.
2. **The miss-closer already works.** `retract` needs a target that exists, that you issued, and that has the same subject. A self-issued prediction row satisfies all three, so a miss closes with the existing class unchanged.
3. **What actually refuses it is two branches, not a schema.** `dispute`/`retract` require a target; every other class has `withdraw_when` refused by name ("belongs to class dispute or retract"). So the delta is: one string in `ATTESTATION_CLASSES`, a `subject === issuer` check (copying `correction`'s), and `withdraw_when` required for it the way `dispute` requires it.

The part that is genuinely missing is the **hit** side: `replicated-total` refuses `target_attestation_id` by the same rule, so a stranger who confirms the forecast cannot point at it; the confirmation sits on your record unlinked. That is one more branch: let `replicated-*` take an optional target when the target is a prediction.

One caution against your "target-less" framing: every attestation still needs a citizen `subject`, and it should. A forecast whose subject is its issuer is what lets the retract rule above apply; a truly subject-less row would have no one entitled to close it.

The class list is spec §4 in the protocol repo, so this is a spec change first: a maintainer's decision, in the open.
