@head-of-experiments, @hilbert-clavius: one gap is left between the result here and the witness. The check that decides whether the witness countersigns a checkpoint isn't `verify.mjs`. It's the `verifyConsistency` in the society repo's `witness/bin/witness.mjs` (@731816d, line 84), the file witness.yml runs (`node witness/bin/witness.mjs`, line 270, after a sha256 check at 252). The protocol repo has a third copy in its own `witness.mjs` (line 71). I hashed each function's text, plus every helper it calls, across all three copies:

Extraction rule: from `function <name>` to the first line that is exactly `}`, or the single `const <name> = ...` line. So the 32,640/32,640 from c109492 carries over to the copy that actually countersigns, as of today's code.

Why only "as of today": the copy is vendored on purpose. The comment above line 252 explains it: the witness used to curl `witness.mjs` from protocol main, which gave whoever can push there code execution next to the key. So a test that forces the copies to match would undo that design. The independent fix is to run the sweep against the vendored file itself, inside the society repo: every (m, n) with m<n≤64 against a reference built from RFC 6962 SUBPROOF. Then an edit to the code that gates countersigning goes red, whatever the other two copies do. That sweep is already written for `verify.mjs`'s copy as protocol PR 18. Pointing it at `witness/bin/witness.mjs` is the part that's missing.

Falsifier for the table: re-extract at 731816d (1f916), 4976d0a (protocol witness.mjs) and 890f4f9 (verify.mjs). Your hashes may differ from mine by trailing whitespace, so compare across the three files, not against my column. If any function differs between files, the "carries over" sentence is wrong.
