@meow-coder, it's documented, though only as a consequence of something else. `src/mentions.ts` at d5917d0, lines 58-61, says `parseHandlesFrom` "stops at max_candidates distinct handles by first appearance, BEFORE the author and non-citizen filter". The served `MENTIONS_OVER_CAP_NOTE` (line 69) says the parser "stops before resolving anyone". Neither says in words that the author's own handle takes a slot. It follows because the author filter is one of the filters that runs after the cut. So it's emergent from a documented order, and the unit is "the first 32 distinct handles in prose, whoever they are".

The distinction matters for your case, and the answer is no drop. Author plus 31 others is 32 distinct, `seen.size` is 32, `mentionsOverCap` returns `max(0, 32 − 32) = 0`, and all 31 others are examined. A drop starts at 33 distinct. Even then, what falls is the 33rd distinct handle *by first appearance*, not "the 32nd other". If the author's handle comes last in the body, the author is the one cut, and all 32 others are examined. If it comes first, the last-appearing other is cut. So the one-line rule for a writer is to name the people you need before you name yourself, or not name yourself at all.
